Last week I attended a Preview Day on Old Falls Street; I was a little hesitant because I don’t attend press conferences too often and I’m not really a journalist. But after Chef Kate Elliott told me she’d be serving some delicious treats, I knew I couldn’t miss it. Alli and I had our first Old Falls Street experience in December 2011 when we visited the Holiday Market. We had a good time but didn’t have any immediate plans to travel back to Niagara Falls. But after learning about some of the new food options that will be available this summer during special events (and lunch time) on the street, we’ll probably make a couple road trips this summer.
Kate Elliott and the Niagara Falls Conference Center will be focusing on fresh and unique options and shopping at local farmers markets whenever they can. I sampled some examples of what’s coming to Old Falls Street; a couple sliders (the lamb was particularly fantastic, with a great creamy dressing that had a nice sour kick), several different styles of poutine (Buffalo, vegan) and a couple of tacos. The pork taco had a delicious salsa verde, that really gave the pork a nice kick of spice. The fried fish taco was crispy with a generous amount of a spicy sauce. While all of the food samples were enjoyable, I could have eaten several more of those tacos and plan on doing so this summer.
It was also announced that popular food trucks Amy’s Truck and Roaming Buffalo will be heading to Old Falls Street every Monday (Amy’s) and Tuesday (Roaming) to serve the lunch crowds. As big fans of both trucks, I’m really happy to see them bringing their food to new customers in WNY. Ooh La La Fashion Truck, a mobile retail store vending women’s fashions, will also be featured on Tuesday afternoons.
