Buffalo Foodies: Buffalo Dandy

Our newest Buffalo Foodie is local blogger Buffalo Dandy (aka Chris Bissonette) who’s been writing a style and lifestyle blog for over two years. The blog focuses on men’s fashion, musical recommendations, local events and companies and even the occasional food and drink post. I’ve been reading the blog for a couple months and have just recently met Chris in person, so I can confirm the dude definitely has some good fashion sense. The blog has been getting more popular lately, recently being profiled on Buffalo Spree and launching their own Tie Shop.

We got a hold of Chris and asked him about his favorite places to eat, drink and hang out in Western New York. Here’s what he had to say….

Right now, where are you favorite places to eat?

BD: There are several favorites, spread throughout Buffalo that my wife and I frequent the most. Russell’s Steakhouse is perhaps one of our favorites, both for the quality of food, atmosphere and price. We love going their sitting down at the bar for pre-dinner cocktails and watching the concerts on their massive tvs and the service is just second to none. For downtown Buffalo, Bacchus has been our staple for quite some time now, with my wife loving their Salmon and me always enjoying their filets. The atmosphere is great there and their wine list is extraordinary. Another great one that’s still sort of under the radar is Martin Cooks. The interior is stunning and the menu is at first glance is somewhat intimidating. But everything tastes so incredible there (who knew Green pancakes could taste so good?!) that you just keep going back for more.

Where do you like to grab a drink with friends?

BD: Mike A’s in the Lafayette not only has one of the most beautiful bars in Buffalo, it also is home too one of the best bartenders. However, The Lodge which recently opened up on Chippewa is quickly becoming a favorite happy hour spot. The space is just incredible and there is so much to do and see there that it’s just a fun spot to hang out in.

If you had a friend visiting from out of town, where would you take them for a good “Buffalo” time?

BD: Like I said, The Lodge is the new place I’ve taken people for a “you won’t believe this is in Buffalo” spot, prior to that it was The Lafayette Hotel. Out-of-towners who come looking for Buffalo Wings will usually want to head to places like Duffs or Anchor Bar, but I’ve found that Gabriel’s Gate has not only the best wings, but also an infinitely cooler interior.

What are some of your favorite foodie memories from your childhood?

BD: Sunday night dinner at my grandmother’s house in Albany was always a big thing because she always made these great Italian meals that just always remind you of home. One of the (many) reasons I married my wife I jokingly say is that her meatballs were just as good as my grandmothers, so that’s how I knew I found someone special. Another favorite memory growing up in the 80’s were the birthday parties at Chuckie Cheese. The video games, the ball pits, playing under the stage while the creepy animatronic singers did their thing… We had so many parties there between me and all my cousins, it ‘s just one of those places I’ll never forget.

What other restaurants or cuisines would you like to see in WNY?

BD: I’ve been seeing it here and there in small amounts, but what I would really like to see is a legit whiskey bar in Buffalo. Many places have started to expand their whiskey selection which is great, but I would still love to see a place where whiskey is their primary focus.

We’d like to thank Chris for taking time out of his busy schedule to answer our questions. If you are interested in men’s fashion, there is no better blog to be following for local Buffaloians. The posts about lifestyle products, music and other cool events are an extra plus and also worth checking out. I’d suggest you visit his website or following along on twitter, facebook or instragram.
