This Wednesday (November 20th) a fundraiser for Dispenza’s Meat Market and Slaughterhouse will be taking place at Artisan Kitchens and Baths. For years, many of our local farmers have been forced to transport their animals to facilities that are located hundreds of miles away for processing. Over the last 18 months, Frank and Rachel Dispenza have been trying to change that. They offer a quality meat market and a USDA inspected slaughterhouse in Ransomsville that focuses on showcasing quality products and treating animals in the most humane way.

Their client list includes some of our favorites. Currently T-Meadow Farms uses their services to process some of their heritage hogs and restaurants like Carmelo’s and Bistro Europa incorporate products that were processed at their facility on their menus.

As we’ve seen with many of our farm and restaurant friends, working in this industry can be very hard. Almost everyone we know is in this line of work because they love what they do, not for the paycheck. It’s clear when you talk to Frank or Rachel that they love their new business. We saw this first hand when they stopped by to record a podcast (episode will be released tomorrow!) and when we visited their shop last weekend (which we highly recommend everyone does on the regular). This event will help raise some money to help the Dispenza’s cover recent unexpected costs and to support a business that is providing Western New York with a very important service.

The event will be held at Artisan Kitchens & Bath and will feature dishes from the three Trattoria Aroma chefs using high quality local beef/pork/chicken. In addition there will be a cash bar, some live music and Frank will be doing a breakdown of T-Meadow Pig at the end of the event for a lucky auction winner. You’ll also be able to win local cookbooks and tickets to Nickel City Chef, a Gift Certificate to Bistro Europa and more. Entrance to the event is a donation of $50 (at the door) and the event will take place from 6pm to 9pm.

I really love food and I love living in the city of Buffalo. I'm here to talk about both of those things.
